Background

Definition of Informing:

"In-Forming is the individual's personal analog to uploading, outsourcing, in sourcing, supply-chaining, and off shoring. In-Forming is the ability to build and deploy your own personal supply chain -- a supply chain of information, knowledge, and entertainment." "Informing is searching for knowledge." ( The World is Flat, p.179)

What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication
is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts
--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)..PLC uses RSS within i Google and is used when students want to update school projects

What is Open Source?

Open source software is similar in idea to "free software" but slightly less rigid than the free software movement. Users of open source software are (generally) able to view the source code, alter and re-distribute open source software. There is however less of an emphasis in the open source movement on the right of information and source code to be free and in some cases companies are able to develop proprietary products based on open source ones.

Impact on Education

Researching

 • Google is used by everyone to research different things for school and different reports.
 • Google now is used by over 1,000,000,000 (one billion) users daily, compared to 150,000,000 (One-hundred fifty million) three years ago.
 • Google offers many different applications such as Gmail, Google Calender, Google Talk, and The Start Page.
 • Many schools are adopting a Google centric approach. Shown in graphic below.

An American Students Perspective:
High school students more than use it; it is the way high school students learn, research, and create information. In the U.S. google is what citizens rely on for accurate information. In addition, google searches give a variety of information and anything that might pertain to the topic you are searching.
Personally, I use google to get most all my information pertaining to school because it is visually pleasing and easy to see. Where as ask.com or msn use a font that is smaller and harder to see. Now with You Tube video attached to google it is even more youth appealing. As a youth myself I am naturally attracted to new technology because that is the generation I live in. Also google has many other advanced tools that their site offers such as google readers, news, labs, documents, and blogs etcetera.
Google has made it that much easier for high school students to do work or just play. Now with RSS feeds students never have to search for anything on google it will go directly to their e-mail. Google is advancing everyday and they have found their way into American homes.

GOOGLE IN THE FUTURE::
On cnnmoney.com, there is an extremely intersting article titled :Imagining the Google Future
Top experts help us plot four scenarios that show where the company's geniuses may be leading it....

My Final Video- Andrew

Impact on Business and Employment

Background:
Google is currently more than just a search engine lately; it has become part of our daily lives. It is used by over a billion (1, 000, 000, 000) users daily from around the world. Google gained its fame though its organized page, with its Page Ranking technology which provides relevant results and finally through its self-proclaimed accurate results. Similar to other search engines Googles paid for listings placements on its result pages although it remains ad-free. It keeps its “sponsored links” separate from its actual result pages and its search engine. Lately Google’s’ looking into different technology in order to make its user’s lives simpler.

Below we look at few of Google's recent products.
 • The many other products of Google's beside from Web, Images, Videos, News, and Maps

> -by Omar
> These include Gmail, Gtalk, and Google Earth for example. ----
 • Google Lab
>
> -by Omar
> Google Labs allow Google users to view the recent innovations and inventions by Google for its users. For example, The Viewer which shows the results of searches on a slideshow. The slide displays description regarding the website alongside with the website and it goes on similarly like a PowerPoint slide. In addition of exploring Google’s technologies, there is a column which shows the “Graduates of Labs” that are successfully used by Google users.

 • Google Code
>
> -by Omar
> Recently Google has shown an interest in Open Source, and it’s stated in an article that it’ll soon be the “Godfather” of Open Source. Above in the video, you can see that Google provides Open Source software for its users on an separate page which is displayed as Google’s products. In addition, Google was awarded $25G by O’Reilly Open Source Awards.external image osasmall.gif
> ----
Google Purchases YouTube for $1.65B
> “Google Purchases YouTube for $1.65B” is one of the considerable news online lately. Business wise I believe Google’s portraying its uniqueness by purchasing YouTube as it a niche. - "Google announced today that it would acquire YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock compensation. YouTube will continue to operate independently. Google Video will continue to operate separately."
